Hearing aids vary in type and size according to the wearer’s degree of hearing loss, ear size and ear canal shape.
Behind-the-Ear (BTE)
This type of hearing aid is placed behind the ear and treats many types of mild to profound hearing loss. The sound is sent to the ear through a mold or tube placed inside the ear. This device has several additional features, such as two microphones, greater strength and greater protection against water, moisture, dust and dirt. It is considered the best choice for children.
Receiver-in-Canal (RIC)
This elegant and attractive hearing aid is placed behind the ear and is barely visible due to its small size. It helps treat various degrees of hearing impairment from mild to profound cases. It sends the sound through a receiver placed inside the ear canal via a dome-shaped, SlimTip or cShell earpiece. The receiver size varies according to the user’s degree of hearing loss.
In-the-Ear (ITE)
This is the largest hearing aid in the internal hearing aids category. It is placed inside the user’s pinna and is designed to treat moderate to severe hearing loss with its high sound amplification.
In-the-Canal (ITC)
This small hearing aid is placed inside the ear canal and is designed to treat severe to profound hearing loss.
Completely-in-Canal (CIC)
This style of hearing aid is placed deep into the ear canal. It treats mild to moderate and severe hearing loss in adult patients.
Invisible-in-Canal (IIC)
This is the smallest style of hearing aid designed to be placed fully into the ear canal. It helps to treat mild to moderate hearing loss in adults only. It is ideal for those who desire a completely hidden hearing aid. This style should be prescribed by an audiologist.
